ABOUT

  New Mexico desert.  Monoprint

I have been painting and drawing all my life, having won my first painting competition at the age of five. British born, I lived in New York for many years and studied painting and sculpture at the Art Students League.  I was a costume designer for off-Broadway theatre, dance and opera, and studied at The Studio and Forum of Stage Design in Greenwich Village.

I am the co-founder and organiser of South Coast Printmakers, a group of artist/printmakers in Kent and East Sussex (www.facebook.com/southcoastprintmakers6).  I am also a member of Pure Arts Group, SoCo (South Coast Artists) and Tenterden Artists.

I recently founded a group called West Hill Artists and opened my studio, together with several other artists in the art-centric neighbourhood, as part of Coastal Currents in September 2018.

My practice is focused on wildlife art.  I find inspiration in nature and its transformative qualities.  I am moved by death and decay, plants and animals transforming the world around us.  I am particularly interested in birds of prey and corvids, two species which suffer considerably from cruel persecution.

Although my work is primarily focused on birds I do occasionally stray to other topics of interest; landscapes, fables and other allegorical subjects.  I have just completed a limited edition artist’s book, comprised of fifteen original linocuts.  These accompany a story I wrote about a young Native American, a shape-shifting shaman and a magic bowl.
